Who We Are
At Step One Halfway House, we believe that change happens one step at a time. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, dedicated to providing safe, stable, and supportive housing for men in transition. Our mission is to create a structured environment where individuals can rebuild their lives with dignity, accountability, and purpose.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower men facing homelessness and life challenges by providing safe housing, a supportive community, and opportunities to rebuild their future with accountability and stability. We understand that the journey to stability requires more than just a place to stay—it requires community, accountability, and the chance to start fresh.
Our Programs
Step One Halfway House provides structured transitional housing for men seeking stability, accountability, and forward progress. Our approach centers on disciplined daily structure, peer support, and measurable personal responsibility within a community living environment.
Through safe housing and consistent expectations, residents rebuild routine, strengthen decision-making, and prepare for independent living.
A core part of our housing model is i-Host (In-House Opportunity Team) — our voluntary leadership and accountability initiative built around our Work Therapy philosophy. i-Host encourages purposeful participation, shared responsibility, and readiness for external employment while reinforcing structure inside the home.
Why Step One Matters
Rising Community Demand
Phoenix and Maricopa County continue to experience increasing need for stable, structured housing for men navigating financial hardship and life transition.
Structured Community Living
Our homes emphasize:
- Accountability-based housing standards
- Peer leadership and shared responsibility
- Safe, furnished living environments
- Clear participation expectations
Structure creates stability — and stability creates forward movement.
Access & Opportunity
Step One works with individuals who demonstrate commitment to rebuilding their lives. When appropriate and based on availability, individualized participation and fee arrangements may be considered to help remove immediate barriers while maintaining responsibility and program integrity.
Our focus is simple: create an environment where motivated individuals can regain stability and transition toward licensed sober living or independent housing.
Our Vision for the Future
Step One Halfway House is more than housing—it is a pathway. We envision a community where every man has the chance to rise, recover, and rebuild. With continued support from donors, volunteers, and community partners, we are expanding our reach to serve more individuals in need.
Get Involved
You can help us change lives. Whether through donations, partnerships, or volunteering, your support allows Step One Halfway House to continue offering hope and stability to men in transition.
Step One Halfway House provides safe, stable, and affordable transitional housing for men who have committed to living free from alcohol and drugs. Our goal is to maintain a respectful, structured living environment where each resident contributes to the upkeep and positive atmosphere of the home.
Step One Halfway House is a supportive housing community, not a licensed treatment provider. We do not offer clinical services or therapy. Residents are expected to remain alcohol- and drug-free during their stay and may be referred to outside resources when additional support is needed.
